Refrigerant Temperature Pressure Chart

The refrigerant temperature pressure chart is a tool that is readily available yet rarely used to its full advantage. It is often referred to as the “PT” Chart, or “PT” card.   The PT Chart typically lists the pressure on the left, and the corresponding refrigerant boiling point on the right. Refrigerant at these conditions is referred to as saturated. Saturated refrigerant can be 100% vapor, or a mixture of liquid and vapor, or 100% liquid.

At temperatures above saturation, the refrigerant becomes super-heated vapor. At temperatures below saturation, refrigerant becomes sub-cooled liquid. Saturated refrigerant occurs in both evaporator and the condenser.
